Catherine Ford is a British actress born in Bloomsbury. Following the time her father's divorce from her household, the actress was brought to maturity by her mother, godparents and grandmother. As a young child, Ford battled obsessive/compulsive disorders and anxiety caused through word-related associations. Ford started acting in her teens, and was a member of the National Youth Theatre. She got into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. After just a month, she decided that it wasn't the right fit for her. Ford reapplied for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and, after her fourth attempt she was accepted. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford received her degree in 1993. Before that, however, Ford made a television debut on Surgical Spirit in an episode in 1990. Ford took the professional name Catherine Tate. Tate made appearances on television during the Nineties with shows such as The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate's regular involvement in the theatre has led to her joining the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. Tate was recognized for her stand-up comedy, which has been added to her portfolio in 1996.
